Tips on Properly Breaking In Your New Workboots

If you have new workboots, when it is worn for the first time, you will notice that the fit is not perfect. More often than not, it can be tight and it can cause discomfort. From the heels and the sides of your toes, you might experience some pinches. Nonetheless, keep in mind that this is normal. Whether it is for steel cap boots or any other kind of footwear, this does not mean that you got the wrong size. It means that there is a need for breaking in. The latter will make it possible for the shoe to be more flexible and for the fit to be right. Keep on reading and we will provide you with some tips on how you can break in your new boots at work.

Walk Around

This is perhaps the simplest way of being able to break in your new workboots. Put on the shoe and walk around the house for an extended period. Start by wearing it at least ten minutes daily while walking and sitting in the house, as well as doing other normal chores. Wear it for a longer period of time the following days. The important thing is to wear it first at home a couple of days before it is worn for a full shift in your work. This will make your feet accustomed to the safety boots, and more importantly, will make it more flexible, which is essential for your comfort.

Apply Conditioner or Moisturiser

The use of oil, creams, or other liquids with moisturising properties can also be another effective way to break in steel cap boots. This is especially true if the footwear is made from leather, which will be more malleable when moisturised. Apply the conditioner or moisturiser on the surface of the leather and leave it overnight. This will make it easier for the material to take the form of your feet and will also make it softer. The end result is that you can move easier.

Cold Water Treatment

The main purpose of this treatment of breaking in your workboots is to be able to have the leather stretched. It may be a bit risky for the shoes, but when it is done right, there is nothing that you should be worried about. First, you need a plastic bag, or probably a Ziploc. Have it filled with water and place it inside the boots. See to it that the bag is positioned exactly on the angle where pinching is experienced. Place it in the freezer and allow it to stay there for the night. The morning after, remove it from the freezer and allow the ice to melt before having the bag removed. Make sure that your boots is made from waterproof leather before this method of breaking in is tried.

Hot Water Treatment

This is a method that is popular for people in the military. Just like in the method that has been mentioned above, it is also important to make sure that the workboots are waterproof. First, you will need to have a bucket that is filled with warm water. Immerse the boots in the bucket and allow it to stay in the water for about half an hour. Once there is no more excess water on the boots, wear it for half an hour or one hour. Of course, put your socks on. This may not work best for all people as the boots can be hot, which is why it is used often in the military. See to it that it is not left in the water for a time that is longer than recommended as excessive moisture can damage the appearance of leather.
