Essential Must Have’s During A Power Outage

Power outages can be a stressful time especially if you have a family with small children or if you are elderly. Even if none of those situations apply to you a power outage can be an expected and stressful situation regardless of your situation if you are not prepared.

While this list is not exhaustive it will save as a general guide for the most essential items to have if you are planning ahead.

The main item you will want to have available is a generator. The size of the generator will vary depending on your needs and preferences. Baring in mind that in sever situations some outages could last anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks so the more prepared you are during an outage the less stressful the experience will be.

Other items that have been shown to be valuable tools during a power outage are candles or flashlights. Some people recommend the battery powered ones while others will recommend flashlights that are not dependent upon batteries. Again, this is a personal preference based on your current situation. I would recommend a combination of battery powered and alternatively powered flashlights if available. This way you will have light regardless of the situation that you may find yourself in.

While not everyone agrees I always think it is a good idea to have safety footwear during any unforeseen situation. The reason why I recommend having a pair of safety footwear available is because safety footwear can protect your feet from environmental situations you may not be aware of. For example, if you ended up with a leak due to the power outage and that leak caused a circuit break you are now at risk for an electrical shock. A good solid pair of safety boots will protect you from a potential electrical shock.

Boots Blundstone 142 Lace UpA pair that I like are the Blundstone Lace Up Boots these boots have received great customer reviews because of their overall durability, comfort, and level of protection that they offer. They are electrical shock resistant, they offer a wide toe fit for added comfort. They are water resistant, slip resistant, weather resistant, and oil and acid resistant. It offers the protection, style and comfort that make this an ideal solution for those that are looking for a little extra security without compromising in the other areas.
