Ear plugs sit inside the ear canals, while ear muffs form a cushioned seal around the ears. Ear plugs are small and lightweight, while ear muffs are generally easier to put on and remove. Neither type is automatically more protective: performance depends on the model’s rating, correct fit and consistent use.

Are corded or uncorded ear plugs better?

Neither is automatically better. A cord helps keep the pair together, while uncorded ear plugs avoid a connecting cord that may interfere with some tasks.
