Frequently asked questions about arc and fire rated workwear

What is the difference between arc rated and fire rated workwear?

Fire rated (flame resistant) clothing resists catching fire and self-extinguishes, tested to standards like EN ISO 11612 and NFPA 2112. Arc rated clothing is also tested for protection against the heat of an electrical arc flash, shown as an arc rating or PPE category under standards such as NFPA 70E and IEC 61482-2.

What does PPE CAT 2 mean?

PPE CAT 2 is an arc flash protection category under NFPA 70E. CAT 2 garments have a minimum arc rating of 8 cal/cm², and CAT 3 garments a minimum of 25 cal/cm². Your site's risk assessment sets the category you need.

Is the reflective tape on FR hi-vis also fire rated?

It should be. FR hi-vis styles in this range, such as those listed with FR tape, use flame resistant reflective tape so the tape does not undermine the garment. Check each product page for its tape and standards.

Do you stock arc flash gloves?

Yes. The range includes arc flash gloves tested to ASTM F2675 / IEC 61482, many also rated for cut resistance under EN 388 and heat and flame under EN 407.

Do you have women's arc and fire rated workwear?

Yes. Browse our women's arc and fire rated workwear for FR shirts and pants cut for women.
